Record Breakers

Record Breakers was a British children's TV show, themed around world records and produced by the BBC and originally presented by Roy Castle with twin brothers Norris McWhirter and Ross McWhirter. The programme was a spin off series from Blue Peter which had featured record breaking attempts overscene by the McWhirter twins. It was broadcast on BBC1 from 15 December 1972 to 21 December 2001. Producers of the series over the years were, Alan Russell, Michael Forte, Eric Rowan, Greg Childs, Annette Williams and Jeremy Daldry. The closing theme was "Dedication", performed by Roy Castle, who broke nine world records on the show himself. As well as interviews with people who held British or World records, early editions of the programme would include a feature in which the studio audience would test the McWhirter brothers on their knowledge of records, and the climax of each show would usually be a world record attempt in the studio. Ross was shot dead by a Provisional IRA assassin in 1975, but his brother continued to appear on the show in the "Norris On The Spot" feature. Other hosts included Fiona Kennedy, Cheryl Baker, Fearne Cotton, Kriss Akabusi and Ronald Reagan Jr. After Castle's death in 1994, the show was hosted by Baker and Akabusi, then Linford Christie took over in 1999 with co-presenters Jack Lattimer, Jez Edwards and Kate Sanderson.

The Beatles on Record 2010

In 1962 an unknown group from Liverpool entered Abbey Road Studios to record their debut single. During the next eight years they created what is arguably regarded as the greatest collection of studio recordings of the 20th century. This film charts The Beatles' extraordinary journey from Please Please Me to Abbey Road and reflects how they developed as musicians, matured as songwriters and created a body of work that sounds as fresh now as the time it was recorded. Narrated entirely by John, Paul, George and Ringo and Sir George Martin, the documentary features rare footage and photos from The Beatles' archives and never heard before out-takes of music and studio chat from the Abbey Road recording sessions.

On the Record

On the Record was a weekly political television show aired by the BBC in the United Kingdom between 1988 and 2002. The programme was usually shown on a Sunday lunchtime on BBC One, as a replacement for the 1980s political series This Week, Next Week, which was presented by David Dimbleby. The programme was presented by Dimbleby's younger brother, Jonathan Dimbleby, from 1988 to 1993, and by John Humphrys from 1993 to 2002. A typical programme ran for one hour and began with a filmed piece about a major issue of the day before returning to the studio where the presenter would 'grill' a leading politician on the same issue. The programme's mascot was a crocodile, based on a British House of Commons gargoyle and the "Big Ben" Clock Tower, and fashioned from plastic, glue and leather. For the title sequence of the first five series the crocodile marched across the UK; from 1993 onwards, the croc marched around Europe. Both sequences were shot in stop-frame animation by 3 Peach Animation. During 2000, the then BBC Director General Greg Dyke ordered a review of political output from BBC, which was carried out by Fran Unsworth. This led to a major overhaul of political output in 2002, which resulted in On the Record being axed and replaced with The Politics Show. The final edition was aired on 15 December 2002.
